I’m Lonesome For The City

I’m lonesome for the city
With its smoky skies above,
With the subway rushing onward,
And the ones I dearly love.

I’m lonesome for a sunset
Of the city far away,
When it sets its dusky dawn
Over river, lake, and bay.

But there’s one thing that is special
Which I am pining for,
And that’s the feeling of home
With an open welcome door.

I’ll ne’er give up the city
For the wide outstretching plains,
I would rather look at buildings
Through shining window panes.
